Credit Cards
Card readers and credit card billing
The acceptance of credit cards makes them the ideal tool for operating kiosk terminals maintenance-free and minimizing the risk of theft. The operation of credit card devices requires SiteKiosk Pay. In addition to manual data input, SiteKiosk also supports different credit card readers such as manual swipe or motorized insert readers.

Payment dialog box
If users want to access pay content or services, a payment dialog box appears prompting them to insert payment. The dialog box also shows the user images of all accepted credit cards.
Authorization for a payment transaction with credit card
Authorization and crediting
Customers may enter their credit card information as well as the amount to be withdrawn. A credit card gateway is used to authorize, charge, and credit your account with the corresponding provider (VISA, MasterCard, Amex, etc.). You as the operator will usually only have to sign a contract with one of the gateways we support (Verisign/PayPal, Authorize.net, Moneris, etc.).

Optional CVC (Card Verification Code) verification can now be enabled for certain gateways.
Charge for printing
Charging
The inserted amount is automatically credited to the Payment Module account and can be withdrawn by the user in various ways:

a) Usage time:
Every minute a certain amount is withdrawn. Usage fees may be charged either for a certain type of content (e.g. website, program) or rate based on the time of day (e.g. happy hours).

b) Service:
A certain service is offered for a fee and charged for using the pull mode (i.e. use the print function to set a printing charge per page or specify a set fee for downloads).

Users can also retain their remaining credit on their own individual user account, for use at a later time. However, the user account function requires the installation of the additional free SiteCafe software
Internet Access Billing
End of session
Users will be prompted at a set time interval before they run out of available credit and is notified by a visual and acoustic alert. Users will be prompted to add more credit, or at the event that the user has used up reached an end to his/her available credit (credit=0), the session will be ended automatically. When SiteKiosk ends a user session, it will close all open windows and applications, as well as delete all information left during the last session.

CHIP and PIN support
SiteKiosk versions 6.6 or higher also support CHIP & PIN credit cards. Before long, you will be able to use your personal identification number (PIN) to complete credit card transactions just like you would withdraw cash from an ATM using your MAESTRO or EC card.

Advantage: the overall system will accept both old cards with magnetic stripes as well as new credit cards using SmartCard
Credit card gateways
Operators who would like to support payment by credit card will have to sign up for a credit card gateway which checks the validity of the cards and makes withdrawals in exchange for a fee. Minor additional fees per month may apply. The operator can select a provider from a list of supported credit card gateways:

Advantages for using payment by credit card:
  • Acceptance
Credit cards are considered as a standard method of payment, though not used as commonly as cash.
  • Theft-proof
Electronic payment transactions do not involve any cash.
  • Maintenance costs
No devices have to be emptied, as the payment can be credited directly to your account.
  • Automation
You can operate these machines without the assistance of extra personnel.
Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard
The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, usually shortened to PCI, is a body of rules and regulations applied to payments that involve the processing of credit card transactions. The standard is supported by all major credit card organizations. PCI LogoIt is the objective of the PCI Security Standards Council to increase security for payment and account information by providing information, training and educational advertising about the PCI Security Standards. The organization was founded by American Express, Discover Financial Services, JCB International, MasterCard Worldwide, and Visa, Inc.

All commercial enterprises and service providers who store, submit or process credit card transactions must meet the requirements of this standard. Please note that this standard is NO legal regulation. However, your point of acceptance may require you to obtain PCI DSS certification as soon as you start accepting credit cards as a method of payment at your terminals. If you fail to obtain this certification, acceptance of credit card payments may ultimately be denied. Compliance with the rules is usually validated based on the company's volume of sales (e.g. annual credit card transactions of 1 M or more).
Having your terminals certified according to the PCI DSS will ensure that you are in compliance with the standard. It is, unfortunately, not possible to obtain PCI DSS certification for individual software applications such as SiteKiosk as the certification always applies only to package solutions consisting of hardware and software (your kiosk terminal). Certification can only be obtained from an approved scanning vendor (ASV). For a list of certified ASVs, click here.

Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA-DSS)
PA-DSS is a program under private law that is managed by the Council and originated in the program “Payment Application Best Practices (PABP)” which was managed under the supervision of Visa Inc. The objective of the PA-DSS is to support software providers and other vendors in developing secure payment applications which will not store any forbidden data such as complete magnetic strips, CVV2 or PIN code data and offer compliance with the PCI-DSS. PROVISIO GmbH guarantees that the original version of the "SiteKiosk" application they ship will not store any credit card information. As credit card information will only be transferred to a credit card gateway "certified in accordance with the PCI-DSS" via an HTML form, the SiteKiosk application itself cannot be certified in accordance with the PA-DSS. Also: Even if you use applications that are certified in accordance with the PA-DSS, you will still have to obtain PCI DSS certification.
